ALEXANDRE KLINKE
(Brazil / Vancouver BC)
SET TIME: 2:45pm

Alexandre Klinke is a composer and media artist from Sao Paulo, Brazil, based in Vancouver, BC. With a background as a musician, as well as a videographer and video editor, his works encompass different fields such as media and installation art, music for film, sound design and performance. The division and sense of foreignness associated with the experience of immigration are often present in his pieces, where he seeks to find connections and patterns in seemingly unrelated events, juxtaposing audio and video material from different times and places.

MEREDITH BATES
(Vancouver BC)
SET TIME: 2:00pm

A talented improvisor and performer, award-winning violinist Meredith Bates is known for her elegant and virtuosic sound. She has spent most of the past twenty years recording and performing around the world in celebrated ensembles, such as Pugs and Crows (JUNO winner 2013, WCMA 2016), Gentle Party, and projects led by Vancouver music icons Tony Wilson, Ford Pier, Leah Abramson, and Peggy Lee. She is a collaborator at heart and relishes any opportunity to join forces with other likeminded artists.

Recently, Meredith has been focusing on her own projects. In December 2020, she released an epic ambient and experimental debut solo album, ‘If Not Now‘, produced by Chris Gestrin on Phonometrograph. Featuring layers of processed violin and viola, it is inspired by our relationship to one another and our natural surroundings.

GEORGE RAHI - SOUND SCULPTURES
(Philadelphia / Vancouver BC)

George Rahi is a composer and sound artist based in Vancouver, unceded Coast Salish territories. He uses self-created and altered instruments as a method of exploring the intersections between acoustic and digital technologies, modes of listening, and spatial and architectural thinking. His work includes installations, instrument making, compositions for pipe organ, solo + ensemble performance, and works for radio, theatre + public spaces. He has presented throughout North America, Europe and Asia. He holds an MFA from Simon Fraser University and is the recipient of the 2018 R. Murray Schafer Soundscape award. In 2019 he began a year-long mentorship with sound artist and kinetic sculptor Trimpin. George Rahi's sound sculptures "Frequencies" and "Pulses // Patterns" will feature at Fisherman's Wharf Park on Saturday, July 31, from 12pm to 5pm.
