The music that first was popular inthe early 1900's is called "Ragtime" describing the appearance for the first time of a syncopated style that blends European music with African folk music. It received a big boost when featured in the movie "The Sting" and those compositions of Scott Joplin are classics of today.

Victoria Ragtime Quartet (Ragtime)

That syncopated music of the early 1900's was featured in the movie "The Sting" and opened ears once again to this marvelous music. A bridge between European music and African folk music, ragtime still delights listeners. more info
