Event Archive - Kellylee Evans

Mon. June 25th 2007 Capital Ballroom (formerly Sugar) (No Minors)
9:30pm doors at 9:00pm
Tickets at: Victoria Jazz Society, Royal Theatre, Lyles Place
Born in Toronto of Jamaican
parents, singer-songwriter
Kellylee Evans is a big star on the
rise. Three years ago she placed
second in the prestigious
Thelonious Monk International
Jazz Vocals Competition (out of
160), and recently brought out
her stunning debut CD Fight or
Flight? nominated for a 2007
Juno for Vocal Jazz Album of the
Year. Proud owner of a
wonderfully clear and supple alto,
Kellylee performs a jazz-infused
brand of worldbeat soul that
seduces and thrills. Sounding like
a cross between Sarah Vaughan
and Norah Jones, Kellylee is equally
compelling as a songwriter: her
self-penned album has critics
comparing her with Aimee Mann
and Ron Sexsmith. Don’t miss this
one! Kellylee will be performing
in Victoria with Adam Bowman
drums, Matthew Lima bass, Kevin
Ramessar guitar/trumpet, and
Dave Thompson guitar.
“Fight or Flight? is the perfect
blend of spine-tingling grooves,
mesmerizing rhythms, and
infectious lyrics.” –JazzMonthly
