Shara Leah

Age: 30
Born under the sign of Libra during the year of the Horse, art, beauty, music and truth have been the driving elements in Shara Leah’s life. Shara Leah Lewis was born with an insatiable appetite for harmony and an innate curiosity about all things music. Shara’s parents, troubadours in their own rights, named their little girl after folk singer Sharalee Lucas, who’s 1978 album was titled Daughter of Music. Shara’s earliest memories are of her father, singer/songwriter and accomplished guitarist, singing to her softly; acoustic in hand. Shara’s mother, a prolific lyricist and poet, always encouraged Shara to follow her musical dreams.
A true “Daughter of Music”, Shara began writing down her own compositions at eight years old. Her curiosity lead her to explore every instrument she came in contact with and by age ten she was playing the saxophone and constantly plunking out rock tunes on the family Hammond.
In fifth grade, Shara Leah performed her first lead role as Gretel in the P.A.C.E. Musical Theater production of Hansel and Gretel. By age thirteen, Shara had begun to develop her formal musical knowledge, training in every concert, jazz and church band that would take her in. She gave lessons to her peers at lunch, spent mornings and after school hours in her schools’ band room, and worked weekends to pay for private singing lessons. Shara’s high school years were also spent in the band room and onstage. She studied Music Composition, Jazz, Classical, Choral, Pop, and Concert music.
With only eighteen months of formal classical training under her belt, Shara auditioned for a spot in the Victoria Conservatory of Music’s world renowned diploma program. A natural student of music, she thrived in this environment, receiving her Grade 11 voice and completing her Teacher Training courses with honors.
Composition and writing continued, and recording quickly followed. Shara Leah honed her microphone technique and personal vocal style in a small Victoria recording studio close to the Conservatory of Music. After graduation, Shara’s curiosity led her on yet another musical journey when she joined a group of experienced touring Musicians and formed the band Little Black T. After six years performing covers and originals, Little Black T lost their Bass player to retirement, and the band never fully recovered. By this time Shara had developed the knack of convincing every live band she watched, to let her get up on stage and sing with them, and her reputation began to attract the attention of a new group of Musicians.
Shara moved to Shawnigan Lake, BC, in 2006. She quickly discovered a vibrant musical community existed in the quiet little “Bed and Breakfast” town. Surrounded by studios, music schools, and live jams, Shara felt she had arrived in musical heaven. The talent in this sleepy little town was unlike anything she had witnessed before, and attendance at the local jams became the highlight of Shara’s week. After almost two years of musical celibacy, Shara Leah was scouted to be the lead singer of a new hand-picked Shawnigan Lake based band, and into Sugarfix, this Daughter of Music was born.
