About

Julian Lage Quartet

Thirteen years ago, Northern California’s Julian Lage was a certified guitar prodigy who, despite his youth, had already forged a unique blend of blues, classical, folk, and jazz. He became a sideman and collaborator with artists like Carlos Santana (at age 8!) and Gary Burton (by 15). Although offered record deals on several occasions Lage held back, wanting to become a mature musician and not just a novelty act, however impressive. At 20, he finally felt ready to go into the studio and the resulting album, Sounding Point, is truly a showcase. A virtuoso on both acoustic and electric guitar, Lage sounds like a cross between a traditional folk group and the Wayne Shorter Quartet. He is making his Victoria debut alongside Tupac Mantilla percussion, Aristides Rivas cello, Jorge Roeder bass, and Dan Blake saxophone.
“An artist who dazzles with his depth of feeling rather than technique.” –Boston Globe
