Best known as a song interpreter, Madeleine Peyroux evokes a retro-mystique, with vocals of impeccable delivery and dusky passion; a modern-day melancholy cross between Billie Holiday and Joni Mitchell.
She is best known for her 2005 release Careless Love. In 2008, Peyroux took a turn into uncharted territory with her last album Bare Bones a collection of self-penned compositions and co-writes with heavy hitters such as Joe Henry and Steely Dan’s, Walter Becker. Although generally met with critical acclaim, it garnered less attention than her previous works.
Madeleine has just finished in the studio with her new recording which has been produced by Craig Street (Cassandra Wilson, Joe Henry, Chocolate Genius, Norah Jones) this new album, with all new compositions is scheduled to be released this spring. Madeleine will be making her third appearance in Victoria, this time to open the 2011 TD Victoria International JazzFest.
