Last heard in Victoria in 2007 when he gave one of the standout performances at JazzFest, Montreal’s OLIVER JONES remains one of the world’s greatest virtuosos on mainstream jazz piano. Like his late friend Oscar Peterson, Jones is a so-called “orchestral” player who exploits the full range of the piano whenever he sits at the keyboard. Aside from his blinding speed he also knows everything there is about rhythm and swing, and has a profound feeling for the blues. Although he technically “retired” in 1999, Jones still pays the occasional visit to the recording studio and the concert stage – enough so that he keeps making CDs for the Justin Time label, winning awards, and wowing audiences. We are delighted – and honoured – to once again showcase one of Canada’s most iconic and beloved musical treasures. For what is being billed as his final tour, Jones will be joined by Eric Lagace bass and Jim Doxas drums.
