Event Archive - "a night of guit-fiddle madness": Hayfa Makes Music, with local acoustic artists

Fri. March 7th 2008 930 Ocean Island Lounge (All Ages) 930
Free
Hayfa Makes Music is an energetic collaboration of guitar-fiddle beats coming from Vancouver, BC. Inspired by adventure, movement, silliness and LOVE, the band’s music spurs audience involvement and invokes the most creative of spirits.

Hayfa Makes Music's blend of rich lyrics, energetic beats, and foot-stomping fiddle weaves together folk, reggae, funk and rock. The music is born in an intricate patchwork of experiences from travels throughout West Africa, Asia, and North America, delivering thought-provoking, contagious music.

The three-piece band includes classically trained and charming violinist, Alexandra Taub, whose 15 years of experience has developed her unique mixture of Celtic, classical, and hip-hop violin. Lead singer Hayfa Abichahine, who has been making music with Alexandra for 8 years, has a real passion for writing, guitar, and singing, influenced by artists and activists such as Michael Franti, Ani Difranco, and Amy Millan, which comes from a place of genuine conviction. Completing the dynamic trio, drummer, Johnny Cullen, keeps the crowd guessing with his enthralling, complex beats.

Hayfa Make's Music is excited to be releasing the band 's first album May 2008. In the meantime, you can get a taste of their music at one of their many upcoming shows on the West Coast of Canada.
